Zodiak Media Options Farm Factor

Super-indie Zodiak Media has optioned Nordic World’s agricultural reality format Farm Factor (pictured) for a number of territories.



Nordic World, the programme sales alliance established and owned by TV2 Norway and TV4 Sweden, reports that its agricultural reality format Farm Factor — credited with making farming sexy with its mix of muck, sweat, tears and tantrums — has been optioned by Zodiak Media for multiple territories.


Zodiak Media has optioned Cwmni Da/Good Company Productions’ Farm Factor for the US, France, Benelux, Norway, Finland, Italy and Spain. The deal, which follows the format’s successful debut in May on DR Denmark, was brokered by Jan Salling, Nordic World’s Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of Sales, and Grant Ross, Zodiak Media’s newly appointed Executive Vice-President of Global Creative Development and Format Acquisition.


Since debuting on the international market in 2012, Farm Factor has been optioned in six European territories and licensed in China, where CCTV 7 has commissioned an 8 episode run. It has also gone to licence in Sweden where a local adaptation, produced by Zodiak Media company Mastiff Sweden, is set to premiere next year on TV4. Mastiff Denmark also produced the Danish version of the format — Danmarks Bedste Bondrerøv — which pulled in an average channel share of almost 30% for public broadcaster DR this summer.

The show lends itself to casting fantastically colourful characters in the form of the fiercely competitive farmers and showcases them in their vital roles. Following the impressive ratings in Denmark we are optimistic about Sweden’s launch and are looking forward to taking out Farm Factor in other markets.”  


Farm Factor sees 10 real farmers on 10 real farms battle it out for the accolade of Farmer Of The Year. All the traditional farming skills — scanning pregnant sows, grinding hooves, driving tractors, shearing sheep — play a part in the fiercely contested challenge, as well as the technological and entrepreneurial talents needed to survive in today’s hard-nosed marketplace.

Farm Factor was devised by Good Company Productions in Ireland, where it ran for four seasons on TG4. In 2009, it crossed the Irish Sea to Wales, where Cwmni Da developed the show into a BAFTA-nominated series for the Welsh-language broadcaster S4C.
