In an attempt to change history, in December 2011/January 2012, 17 contestants from 6 countries battled it out in the toughest endurance race known to man. They took on the most remote and hostile environment on the planet to compete in a race that has been a 100 years in the making.

No matter how harsh the conditions, nothing was going to come between these men and women and their calling to reach the South Pole. Except the promise of pitiless punishment from the cruel mistress herself.

In 1911 Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen and British Royal Navy Officer, Robert Falcon Scott set out from their respective Antarctic base camps and began an epic race to be the first the man ever at the South Pole. This was a duel so challenging, so perilous, so grueling and so punishing that only 5 men returned alive. For the Norwegians, a historic first and precious victory.

And today, a 100 years later, why are these adventurers subjecting themselves to these life-threatening conditions, minus 40 degrees Celsius – at the coldest, highest, and windiest continent on earth?

Who are these people who subject themselves to the cruelty of this place? What is it that drives them? A search for meaning or enlightenment? A transcendence of mental and physical boundaries? Or merely a calling – far beyond any reason?
