ttvnews - Nordic World Unveils Mipcom Lineup

The company launches its biggest ever slate which includes two game-changing formats Boxatricks' The Shortest Straw and Eye2Eye Media's The Passion.

Nordic World's CEO Espen Huseby has unveiled the company's lineup for the upcoming Mipcom 2015. The slate promises to be the biggest ever in the introduction of new content, of which the highlights are the two game-changing formats The Shortest Straw and The Passion.

"With six new formats we're heading for Cannes in great shape. There's already been a lot of interest in The Shortest Straw, which comes with unbeatable game-show credentials and The Passion represents the other end of the spectrum. It’s not only modern and surprising, but it also responds to the demand for live experiences", said Ann Christin Siljan, Nordic World’s vice-president of acquisitions and sales.

The first of the two, which also headlines the format slate, comes from the team behind the global super brands Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and The Weakest Link.

With Nicky Byrne as a host for the pilot shot in August, the show pits six contestants against each other in quick-fire rounds of multiple-choice questions. A wrong answer means the player must draw a straw and risk instant elimination from the contest.

The format has generated a global interest and is being backed by Israel’s TV Format Fund, TV2 Norway and one of the original Millionaire creators, David Briggs. It is the first time that the TV Format Fund has invested in a non-Israeli concept.

Also generating global interest is Eye2Eye Media's The Passion, in which well-known singers, actors and celebrities retell the story of Jesus Christ using secular pop songs and performance skills. Meanwhile, a huge public procession wends its way through the city, following a giant neon cross.

This particular format is now making its way into the international market following its phenomenal success in the Netherlands, where it has been the most successful live show ever on Dutch television.

Other new titles on the Nordic World slate include celebrity quiz The Know Show and two factual-entertainment formats focusing on the female experience. Shut Up Woman!, which examines social-media harassment, and Dear Mom which centers on the  joy and pain of motherhood.

The slate is completed by Domestic Divas, in which young, domestically-challenged youngsters are taught basic life skills and Dinner At My Place, which sees a celebrity host invite celebrity mates round for a nice home-cooked meal. Only trouble is, the host can’t cook so the guests bring their own supper.
