Filipino au pairs are exploited by quite a few Norwegian families. The au pairs and the family sign a contract that explicitly states that the girls are in Norway on cultural exchange. The contract has clear guidelines for pay and working hours, and emphasises that the au pair shall be part of the family.

But within their own homes, the families ignore these contracts and treat the girls as the family’s servants. Many are kept from going outside, their passports are taken, and if they don't do as the host family says, they threaten to send them home. In “Masters and Servants” we follow 27-year-old Christy, who has filed charges against her former host family for human trafficking.
