Original title: Sommeren med Selik

This is the enchanting - and true - story of the relationship between seventeen-year-old Katrine and her best friend, Selik, a new-born seal-pup abandoned by its mother on the exposed west coast of Norway.

Katrine knows that having been left alone, the pup will be unable to feed itself, and so resolves to adopt it, to feed and care for it. The pup, a male, accepts Katrine as his mother, following her everywhere, both on land and in the water. One of the girl's prime tasks is to teach Selik to catch fish on his own. Once he has learned to do so, it is time for him to say goodbye and fend for himself.
