In the early 1800s, many countries drove the white-tailed eagle to extinction by extensive hunting. Around 1930 the environmental climate changed, and several countries put the white-tailed eagle on their list of endangered species.

Slowly, the eagle started to return to its former habitats. From East Germany eagles gradually migrated back to West Germany and Denmark, while in the United Kingdom there was not a single white-tailed eagle to be seen on the sky. In Ireland, people have no started talking about the loss of their great bird, and decided to act. This fall, five white-tailed eagles were re-settled from Norway to the coast of Ireland. The chicks were gathered by biologists from nests in Western Norway, flown over the North Sea, and released in the green Irish landscape.  The eagle has returned to its kingdom, but not everyone is pleased. The farmers are afraid that the bird of prey will feed on their livestock, and refuse to accept the newcomers.
