The youngest, Erlend, works as a window dresser in Copenhagen; Margido, the middle brother, owns a small firm of funeral directors in Trondheim; and Tor, the oldest of the three, runs the family farm near Trondheim. The brothers meet at their dying mother’s bedside.

Tor is the only one of the three with a child – a daughter, Torunn, whom he has not seen for many years. Now he wants her to come and say goodbye to a grandmother she has never known.

How easy is it to sever all ties when they prove stronger than one realizes? And what is it like for someone who is unaware that they have such ties?

Emotions the brothers believed long since dead and buried re-emerge, and new ones make their appearance, when dark secrets come to light in The Berlin Poplars.

Based on the novels by Anne B. Ragde.
