Brought up in a strict religious household, Samish born Mari Boine was taught under pietistic rule to fear judgement day and loathe her Samish roots.  Music was forbidden, seen as the devil's work, forcing Mari to live her life as two separate people. The obedient Mari that went to school, became a teacher and married. The other that loved music and listened to radio programs late at night when her parents were in bed. In this interview Mari talks openly about her struggle, defying her family and pursuing her passion for music.
